The world’s oldest man, a retired chemist and parapsychologist, has died in New York City aged 111.
Alexander Imich’ s niece said he died yesterday at his home in Manhattan.
Karen Bogen, of Providence, Rhode Island, said she had visited him a day earlier. She said his health declined about two weeks ago and he did not recognise her.
Alexander Imich was born February 1903 in Poland, and fled the country with his wife after the Nazis invaded in 1939. They eventually came to the U.S. in the 1950s.
He attributed some of his longevity to a healthy diet, no alcohol and years of exercise.
While he held to title of the world’s oldest man, he wasn’t the oldest person. 66 women outrank him including a Japanese woman who is 116-years-old.
