Alfa’s first SUV has been confirmed with the name Stelvio, and will make its global debut at the LA Motor Show in November.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be the second model in the company’s expanded product range, following on from the Giulia sedan, and be underpinned by a tweaked version of the platform found under its five-door sibling.
Both rear- and all-wheel drive variants can be expected as can a similar range of engines to the Giulia. That means the upcoming 2.2-liter diesel from Alfa Romeo will be available as will a 2.0-liter petrol delivering either 200 hp, 250 hp or 280 hp depending on spec. As with the Giulia, the engine line-up will be topped out by the firm’s twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine delivering up to 500 hp in Stelvio QV guise.
Auto Express hints that there’s a possibility future variants will also use some form of electrification.
On a styling front, it is reasonable to assume that many of the design traits from the Giulia will be carried through to the Stelvio. As prototypes have been adorned with heavy camouflage however, it is hard to be certain.
