Algerian plane missing : Passenger Jet Carrying 116 Vanishes From Radar

A flight of Algeria’s national airline, Air Algerie, has disappeared from radar en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers, Thursday.

Contact with flight AH5017 was lost about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou, the airline said, as quoted by Algeria’s state news agency.

The passenger aircraft which had 110 passengers and six crew members on board was last seen at 01:55 GMT, the BBC reports.

Air Algérie said that this aircraft took off from Ouagadougou at 1:17 a.m. (GMT) and was supposed to land in Algiers at 5:11 a.m. (GMT) (6:11 local time). “The last radar contact was at 1:55 a.m. (GMT), while flying over Gao in Mali.”

For that sake, “an emergency unit, chaired by Minister of Transport, has been set up at Algiers Airport,” the same source added.

Loss of contact with Air Algerie flight between Ouagadougou-Algiers

ALGIERS- The air navigation services lost contact with an Air Algerie aircraft travelling Thursday from Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) to Algiers, 50 minutes after its take-off, said the company.

“Air Algerie informs that the air navigation services have had their last contact with the AH 5017 flight linking Ouagadougou to Algiers today, July 24th, at 1:55 am, fifty minutes after its takeoff,” added the same source.

“In conformity with the company’s procedures, Air Algerie activated its emergency plan.”
