Angelina Jolie reportedly bought hubby Brad Pitt an unusual and very expensive wedding gift.
The Maleficent star plunked down $250,000 for the last typewriter author Ernest Hemingway used before killing himself in 1961, sources tell TMZ.
Jolie’s agent reportedly contacted LA Police Commission President Steve Soboroff, who owns an impressive typewriter collection, including a 1926 Underwood that belonged to Hemingway. According to the report, Hemingway used the typewriter for his works in the 1930s, including For Whom the Bell Tolls.
Jolie originally wanted to buy Soboroff’s Tennessee Williams typewriter, but Soboroff did not want to sell it. Then the agent asked if Soboroff would sell one of the two Hemingway typewriters he owned, offering $250,000. Soboroff was unable to turn down the offer.
Earlier in the summer, a deposit check from Jolie’s production company, Chivan Productions, in the amount of $11,000. But during that time, Jolie opted to later cancel the deal to buy the typewriter. She did not ask for her $11,000 check back, but the check was reportedly returned.
