Anthony Gulledge is accused of severely beating a 3-year-old boy over cheesecake.
Gulledge, 30, was arrested Sunday after getting physical with the child who ate the last piece of the dessert. Gulledge allegedly dragged and whipped him as punishment, WREG reported.
[fwdevp preset_id=”8″ video_path=”ylKX2QSZ8Pg”]Police charged Anthony Gulledge with one count of aggravated child abuse and two counts of domestic assault bodily harm. Gulledge is being held in the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center in lieu of $200,000.
According to police, the boy’s mother told police her boyfriend came home Saturday at their house on Mallory in Southeast Memphis and found his dessert gone. He dragged then the boy out of his bedroom by his ankles and whipped him so severely he had a broken leg, dislocated vertebrae, and bruises all over his body.
The beating has shock waves throughout the Mid-South.
“I heard the crying,” said neighbor Tiffany Jordan. “I love that baby. Hurt my feelings when I heard what happened.”
Among the injuries, the child has a bruised lung.
“It’s not right for him to do that baby like that,” Jordan said. “I don’t want to go to jail but I’d be ready to go to jail about something like that.”
Anthony Gulledge appeared before a Shelby County General Sessions judge Monday morning. His bond was initially set at $10,000 but was increased to $200,000.
While neighbors say as bad as this beating was it could have been so much worse.
“Hopefully he’ll be alright,” Jordan said. “I know he’s going to be alright.”
Anthony Gulledge’s case has been reset for Jan. 28.
