Three people are injured when a man with a machete attacks them in a wooded area at the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.
The Associated Press noted that school officials said the attack occurred just after 7:00 p.m. in a remote, wooded area on Thursday and that none of the university’s students or faculty were involved.
Two people, including the suspect, were injured and were all transported to a local hospital for treatment. One victim is currently in critical condition.
KTHV noted that campus police have identified the person responsible for the assault as Ashley Kyle Pettey, 36.
According to the arrest report, Pettey was approached by two people while at his campsite and asked to move. When he refused an argument ensued and he pulled out the large knife and allegedly slashed both victims in the neck multiple times.

He was arrested and is facing charges of first and second-degree battery and aggravated assault.
Police assured the public that at no time was there a threat to the university and its students.
