The body of baby Aaden Moreno has been found in the Connecticut River in East Haddam, Middletown police say.
“Sometime before 8 p.m. tonight [July 7] Connecticut State Police responded to the report of a body found in the water by the swing bridge in East Haddam,” Middletown Police wrote in a press release. “It was reported that it is the body of an infant. Middletown Police Detectives worked with Connecticut State Police and have confirmed that body located is that of seven month old Aaden Moreno.”
Aaden Moreno’s father, Tony Moreno, reportedly called family on the phone Sunday night and talked about jumping off the Arrigoni Bridge in Middletown. The person Moreno spoke to told police they heard Aaden in the background.
When police arrived, they reported seeing Moreno jump from the bridge, but did not see Aaden. A search for the baby was conducted and was scheduled to cease at nightfall on July 7 and resume in the morning.
Tony Moreno survived the jump and police anticipate filing criminal charges against him.
Police said additional updates will be released as they become available and they thanked the agencies who assisted in the search efforts.
“Our thoughts are with Aaden and his family at this time of sorrow,” police said.
