Seismologists have downgraded the magnitude of a light earthquake that jolted the Big Bear Lake area of the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California.
The quake’s magnitude was downgraded after a preliminary report of 4.5.
The epicenter was recorded as eight miles south-southeast of the San Bernardino Mountains community, at a depth of 6.8 miles.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Danielle Bell said no reports of damage had been received.
Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist for the United States Geological Survey, tweeted about the quake while attending the annual meeting of the Southern California Earthquake Center in Palm Springs.
Jones characterized the quake as “normal” Southern California seismic activity. She tweeted that there is a “slight chance of a larger EQ. Very very slight of EQ on [the] San Andreas [Fault].”
