Stillwater native Rachel Frederickson’s 155-pound weight loss was enough to win the grand prize of $250,000 in the season 15 finale of the “Biggest Loser,” which aired Tuesday on NBC.
Frederickson, 24, also set a record for the highest percentage of weight loss for any player in history of the show. She weighed 260 pounds at the start of competition and finished at 105 pounds.
Frederickson, 24, a voice-over artist from Los Angeles, was particularly thin in her face, and her hair also seemed thinner than it had appeared earlier on the show. Thinning hair is a sign of lack of nutrition. In the makeover show mid-season, Frederickson weighed about 50 pounds more and looked much healthier.
On the show, she talked about her past as a competitive high school swimmer who gave up a college scholarship to follow her boyfriend to Europe. When the relationship ended, she ate to console herself and came to loathe her fat appearance.
She vowed to reignite “the champion within” – and her competitive spirit led her to win many of the show’s challenges.
But now some wonder if her competitive nature pushed her weight loss too far.
Frederickson is scheduled to hold a press conference this morning, and it’s possible that NBC will have to respond.
