Biglerville School sent ‘sexist’ letter to girls over graduation dress code.

A family has threatened to sue an entire school district for sexual harassment after receiving a dress code letter for graduation.

The school sent home a letter to families with information about graduation, including dress code for girls. A section of the letter asked female students to choose modest attire and keep “the girls” covered and supported.

It went on to say they don’t want to be looking at “sausage rolls” and remember you can’t “put 10 pounds of mud into a five pound bag.”

The letter may have appeared to be an attempt at humor, but many students and their families are not laughing. Bri Burtop, a graduating senior at the high school, said the letter really bothered her.

“I thought I might be overreacting but I got a lot of support and obviously it was an issue,” she said.

Her mother, Jessica Burtop, agreed. She said the school was unprofessional in its language and pointed out that no slang terms were used to describe the boys’ dress code.

“I was really PO’d,” she said. “You don’t dare say anything like that to a woman in a workplace. That’s a sexual harassment suit boom.”

The school said the document was drafted years ago and has been passed out every year for years.

The school has apologized for the letter but the family waits for a direct apology. The school said it is addressing the issue.
