Bodies thought to be of Mike and Tina Careccia, an Phoenix-area couple missing since June 22, have been recovered, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said Thursday morning.
A man who lives at the property is in custody, Babeu said. The man was not immediately identified and no other information about the search was released.
Babeu said family members of the Careccia’s have been notified of the recovery and arrest.
“Our investigators and staff continue to carefully gather evidence that we believe will prove critical to our investigation and result in a stronger criminal case,” Babeu said.
Details of the investigation are expected to be released at a news conference scheduled for midday Thursday.
Authorities said Michael Careccia, 44, and his wife, Tina, haven’t been seen since they left their home in their car about 5 a.m. on June 22.
The man’s teenage son called 911 about 7:15 that night to report his father and stepmother were missing.
The couple’s abandoned car was later found about a half-mile away from their home, covered in dirt.
Earlier Wednesday, sheriff’s officials served a search warrant at a home blocks from the Maricopa residence of the missing couple and deputies were seen digging on the property.

Babeu had said Tuesday that investigators have evidence that suggests foul play in the case but he couldn’t release any details because of the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Tina Careccia, 42, is an accountant at a Chandler construction company and her husband is a pilot, according to authorities.
Investigators said there has been no activity associated with the couple’s phones, bank accounts, credit cards or social media accounts since they went missing.
Search and rescue teams have gone door to door in the town located about 35 miles south of Phoenix in an attempt to try to get more information about the couple.
Ground and air searches were conducted in addition to the use of dogs to try to track their scent, said sheriff’s spokesman Mark Clark.
Volunteers, including a paraglider, also have assisted in the search.
