A terminally ill boy has received nearly 100,000 birthday cards from well-wishers following an appeal by his mother.
Danny Nickerson, whose birthday was July 25, said this was his biggest wish for his birthday. His request received national attention after his mother, Carley Nickerson, posted it on her Facebook page.
The post prompted people from around the world to send close to 100,000 cards to Danny.
In addition to opening his mail, Danny celebrated his sixth birthday with an outing with his family.
They went to Legoland and met the owner of the New England Patriots, Bob Kraft, who gave Danny birthday presents.
“It’s taken a lot of stress off of us and thinking about him being sick,” his father Daniel Jameson said.
Danny stopped attending kindergarten after he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma in October.
It is one of the most chemotherapy-resistant cancers.
