A young woman who re-opened the debate over assisted suicide after publically announcing she would take her own life, has died.
Brittany Maynard, 29, who campaigned for “Death with dignity”, was suffering from an aggressive malignant brain tumour and died in Oregon from taking lethal drugs prescribed by a doctor.
A spokesperson for the advocacy group, “Compassion and Choices” says she died peacefully in her bedroom Satuday quote, “in the arms of her loved ones.”
Before she passed, she wrote a final post on Facebook saying goodbye to her family and friends asking everyone to “spread good energy and pay it forward.”
She originally made headlines around the world when she made the announcement about a month ago, launching an online video campaign with the compassion and choices organization.
She said she began thinking about death with dignity back in January, when she was first diagnosed with the malignant brain tumor.
She moved to Orgeon in June with her husband, mother, and stepfather so that she could have access to the state’s law that allows physicians to prescribe life-ending medication to terminally ill patients.
