Candice Swanepoel argues that models need more than beauty to really make it in this day-and-age.
The 25-year-old South African star is one of the most sought-after faces in the fashion industry and has strutted her stuff as a Victoria’s Secret Angel and posed on the cover of Vogue and ELLE.
“Some of the smartest businesswomen I know are models,” she explained to Huffington Post Live. “There are so many beautiful girls around that you need more than that. It’s really about being smart now and turning it into a business.”
Many fashion stars have expanded their resumes to include clothing lines, make-up products, perfumes and acting roles.
However, models often have to deal with critics claiming they’re not intelligent.
“We’ve grown a thick skin,” she laughed it off. “So it’s OK.”
At this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Candice was picked to model the $10 million Fantasy Bra, which is encrusted with jewels.
She regularly works out with personal trainer Justin Gelband to keep her in top shape for the catwalk.
“With Justin it’s not only about getting you into shape by training, it’s everything in between. He has taught me so much about nutrition, health and generally understanding how my body functions inside and out,” she recently revealed.
“For me, it’s become a total addiction. With all the travelling and tiresome work, being in shape and healthy helps me deal with everything that’s thrown my way. Having a strength from the core makes all the difference.”
