Carmen Dell’Orefice is an 83-year-old model whose job offers keep pouring after her over 70 years of experience in the industry.
The world’s oldest working supermodel is New You magazine’s spring cover star. Wearing her all black outfit with pearls, a glossy pout and her perfectly coiffed white hair, Dell’Orefice is out to prove she has definitely still got it.
Just like Joni Mitchell, who is the face of Saint Laurent’s Music Project and the new L’Oréal Paris brand ambassador Dame Helen Mirren, Carmen’s presence in the magazine also emphasises a key point – older women are having a moment in fashion right now.
“Today I am in a territory that business considers unmarketable: age and white hair,” she tells the magazine. “Slowly, however, I started to own that territory little by little because I stood up for age,” she adds.
“I had a very respectable career, but I didn’t have a specific look. I was a chameleon.”
Carmen made her first appearance in Vogue when she was 15 and can still be seen strutting down the catwalk today. So, what’s her secret to leading a happy, healthy life?
“Be awake, aware, alive, efficient, involved and flexible both mentally and physically,” she says.
