Passengers aboard Carnival’s Ecstasy cruise ship are recovering after stumbling upon the horrific aftermath of a crew member’s death.
Matt Davis and his wife, Susan, were vacationing on the Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship and were on their way to dinner on the 10th floor when they saw a gruesome scene, according to WFTX-TV.
They saw blood pouring out of an elevator, with the doors straining open and shut. They said it sounded like a rainstorm; a man was inside the elevator and had to run through the blood to get out. “To look and see the elevator with just blood coming down like a sheet, and not stopping… it was a real life scene of The Shining,” Davis told the TV station. “I couldn’t wait to get off the ship. I just wanted to get off.”
It turns out that a 66-year-old electrician, Jose Sandoval Opazo, had died while working on the ship, but the cause is still being investigated. Carnival has offered to pay the Davis family for three counseling sessions. “The company extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family and loved ones of our team member,” a Carnival spokesperson told CNN. “Appropriate authorities have been notified and a full investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.”
