Colorado teen girls accused of trying to join ISIS

Three teenage girls from Colorado were taken into custody at a German airport late last week after their parents reported them missing and feared that they may be seeking to travel to Turkey to join ISIS.

“Relatives and other sources told VOA’s Somali Service the girls left Denver and flew to Frankfurt via Chicago. Family members alerted Denver authorities who contacted their German counterparts,” the agency said.

A spokeswoman with the FBI said that the Denver division assisted with bringing the girls back to Colorado, but would not elaborate beyond stating that they were “safe and reunited with their families.”

Two of the girls are reportedly 15 and 16 years old and of ethnic Somali origin. The third girl is of Sudanese descent.

We will report more information as it becomes available.
