Craig Finn, A British man went into coma, lost leg after friends allegedly set him on fire when he passed out drunk.
His mum Diane, revealed he and his three sisters feared Craig was close to death at one stage.
The 51-year-old revealed: “We nearly lost him twice during that time because his lungs were full of fluid.
“There was a concern that they might lose his right leg too.”
Doctors at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary had to deal with a long list of Craig’s injuries.
He had suffered third degree burns to both of his legs and back.
Surgeons chose to amputate his left leg because of its condition.
And his right ankle, which was at one stage looking at being removed, has been reconstructed.
Devastated labourer Craig revealed: “I don’t think what happened has hit me yet to be honest. I just have to get on with my life.
“‘I’m still young and I can’t let it get the better of me. This has changed my life forever.”
Two of his friends have been charged with arson and causing bodily harm with intent, and are due in court in April.
Two men, aged 24 and 32, have both been arrested in connection to the alleged attack in February last year.
