DJ Rashad, a house music icon in Chicago whose new EP is set to be released next week, was found dead of an apparent drug overdose Saturday afternoon on the Lower West Side.
Rashad Harden, 35, was found unresponsive by a friend around 1:30 p.m. in an apartment in the 2100 block of West 21st Street, authorities said.
DJ Rashad’s label, Hyperdub, acknowledged his passing on its Facebook page, saying: “We’re absolutely devastated by the news that DJ Rashad has passed away. It’s heartbreaking to see such a talented and great guy stopped in his tracks like that. So many people do what they do because of him. Our Condolences go out to his friends and family, keep your heads up Teklife Crew x We will really miss you.”
Rashad was scheduled to perform alongside DJ Godfather and DJ Spinn at the Inhale Art Expo in Detroit on Saturday. He recently completed a tour with Chance the Rapper. DJ Rashad’s We On 1 EP on Southern Belle Recordings is slated for release on Monday.
