FBI rescues kidnapped North Carolina Man

Five people are facing federal kidnapping charges after officials said they kidnapped a Wake Forest man April 5 because his daughter is a prosecutor.

Frank Arthur Janssen, 63, was rescued late Wednesday night by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies in Atlanta, authorities said.

According to public federal documentation, Janssen was targeted by a group as part of an elaborate kidnapping plot. Specific demands were sent to Janssen’s family for the benefit of Kelvin Melton, an inmate at the Polk Correctional Institution in Butner, N.C.

Melton had been prosecuted by Janssen’s daughter, who is an assistant district attorney in Wake County, N.C. Melton was convicted and is serving a state sentence of life without parole.

A release from the U.S. Department of Justice said five people were arrested and face federal kidnapping charges. They are Jenna Paulin Martin, 21, Tiana Maynard, 30, Jevante Price, 20, Michael Montreal Gooden, 21, and Clifton James Roberts, 29.

Janssen, who was receiving medical treatment, was to be reunited with his family Thursday.
