Fifth-graders from New Jersey have been detained by police after the youngsters were caught planning to attack a local high school, authorities said Wednesday.
The students, aged 10 and 11, are fifth graders from Clifton Elementary School #11 in New Jersey and were detained on Wednesday.
Police said they brought a device to school and were planning on using it during the trip to Clifton High School.
The device was not explosive, but authorities said the incident was not a prank.
It was later found to contain vinegar and cinnamon, ABC7 News reported.
Authorities said the children were caught when teachers and administrators found written plans on how the alleged attack would take place.
They were arrested and later released into their parents’ custody on Wednesday night.
All five have been suspended.
No criminal charges have been filed, but an investigation into the alleged plot is ongoing.
