Fire Breaks Out At Britain’s Biggest Mosque.
The Baitul Futuh mosque in Morden went up in flames just after midday, with smoke seen for miles around.
About 70 firefighters were this afternoon continuing to tackle the blaze, which ripped through the building on London Road.
A handful of people were evacuated from the building and one man was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. It is not believed anyone else was injured.
The fire is reported to have caused significant damage to the mosque’s ground floor, as well as some damage to its first floor, roof and neighbouring community hall.
A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said crews were likely to continue working at the site well into this evening.
