Five people found unresponsive at a Coquitlam home after suffering what appeared to be opioid overdoses are recovering in hospital.
Emergency crews administered the prescription medication Naloxone after finding the victims in a home at 831 MacIntosh St. around 10:45 p.m., according to freelancer Shane MacKichan.
Naloxone reverses an overdose and blocks the effects of opioids and was last week approved by Health Canada for use as an emergency treatment.
The victims were taken to Royal Columbian Hospital and all were conscious in hospital, MacKichan said.
Police are now trying to determine the substance the group had been using after seizing items from the home for testing, he said.
Coquitlam RCMP said all five victims are in stable condition.
