One of Winnipeg’s biggest tourist attractions will now also be one of the tastiest. Friday was the first day visitors to The Forks could also enjoy food trucks.
“There’s nothing like eating lunch, while you’re sitting on the grass and chatting with friends,” explains Rose Regier, one of over 100 people eating lunch at The Forks. “It almost makes you not want to go back inside to work.”
May 1st marks the first time that food trucks can open their windows to customers on Israel Asper Way. 11 trucks will be rotating between the four daily spots. Each truck will pay The Forks each time they operate, as opposed to having to buy a full license to operate on the streets like Broadway.
“So it’s not just concentrated on Broadway for lunch,” says Derek Collins, owner of The Poutine King, one of today’s offerings. “We can stay here for the evening, we don’t have to move at 3 o’clock. We can stay here until 10, so it’s great.”
Food trucks will be calling The Forks home daily from now until September.
