Pamela Anderson wants people to stop watching porn. In an op-ed titled “Take the Pledge: No More Indulging Porn”, penned alongside Rabbi Shmuley Boteach for Wall Street Journal, the “Baywatch” actress warns against the “addictive dangers of pornography.”
“This is a public hazard of unprecedented seriousness given how freely available, anonymously accessible and easily disseminated pornography is nowadays,” the column reads. “How many families will suffer? How many marriages will implode? How many talented men will scrap their most important relationships and careers for a brief onanistic thrill?”
The article, a response to former congressman Anthony Weiner’s latest sexting scandal, also suggests that pornography is for “losers” and a “dead-end outlet for people too lazy to reap the ample rewards of healthy sexuality.”
“What is required is an honest dialogue about what we are witnessing – the true nature and danger of porn – and an honour code to tamp it down in the collective interests of our well-being as individuals, as families and as communities,” the article continues. “And if anyone still doubted the devastation that porn addiction wreaks on those closest to the addict, behold the now-shattered marriage of Mr. Weiner and Huma Abedin, a breakup that she initiated, reportedly, in shock at the disgraced ex-congressman’s inclusion of their four-year-old son in one lewd photo that he sent to a near-stranger.”
Boteach and Anderson, who has appeared on over a dozen Playboy covers, go on to say that the dangers of pornography are irreversible.
“We are a guinea-pig generation for an experiment in mass debasement that few of us would have ever consented to, and whose full nefarious impact may not be known for years,” it says. “The march of technology is irreversible and we aren’t so naive as to believe that any kind of imposed regulation could ever reseal the Pandora’s box of pornography.”
Anderson, whose sex tape with Tommy Lee was leaked in 1995, shares two children with the musician, Brandon Thomas Lee, 20, and Dylan Jagger Lee, 18. Last year she told ET it was her oldest son, Brandon, who encouraged her to pose for the final issue of Playboy.
“I said, ‘Hef just called, he wants me to do the last cover of Playboy,’ and he goes, ‘Mom you’ve got to do it,’” recalled Anderson, noting that even when she informed her sons of the nudity, Brandon said, “‘We’re older, we’re not embarrassed anymore of you. You know, we think you’re great.’”
“He was so excited,” she added. “He may have high-fived me!”
