Georgia Authorities Say Six Dead After Shootings, Including Suspect

Five people have been killed in two related shootings in Georgia, reports the New York Times.

The suspect is Wayne Hawes, 51, of Appling, Georgia, who reportedly shot five people on Friday night, before killing himself with the same weapon.

The first shooting occurred late Friday on Appling community’s Johnson Drive (nearly 136 miles east of state capital Atlanta), where three people were shot. Two of them died at the scene and the third victim died at a local hospital, Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins told CBS News. The second shooting took place on Rosemont Drive, about a mile away from the first crime scene, Collins said.

Identities of those who died is yet to be confirmed and the five bodies would be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab, Collins said, according to the AP.

Although the motive for the shootings is yet to be established, County Sheriff’s Office believes it was for domestic reasons.
