Police say a heavily armed Indiana man arrested on his way to a Southern California gay pride parade told them he wanted to do harm to the event.
Following a mass shooting at an Orlando gay club on June 12, which left at least 50 dead and more than 50 more injured, authorities have been on alert at other pride celebrations around the country.
Police in Santa Monica arrested a man who was reportedly heading to the Los Angeles Pride festival with a car full of weapons and explosives, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Authorities received a tip from a citizen about a man possibly in the possession of weapons and explosives on June 12. The man’s car was searched in a traffic stop.
The search turned up a powder similar to tannerite (an ingredient used in pipe bombs), assault weapons, long rifles, ammunition and a camouflage outfit.
The investigation is ongoing, KABC reports. Police don’t believe there was any connection between the man arrested and the shooter at the Orlando nightclub.
