Jeremy Shuler: 12-year-old headed to Cornell

Jeremy Shuler has arrived on the Cornell University campus.

According to The Associated Press, Jeremy Shuler began reading books in English and Korean at age 2, studying calculus at 6 and at age 10 began showing he was intellectually ready for collge.

Both of Shuler’s parents hold doctorates in aerospace engineering and had both put their careers on hold to home school Jeremy, and eventually move him to upstate New York in order to nurture his education. They say when he was 5, he read “The Lord of the Rings” and “Journey Through Genius: The Great Theorems of Mathematics” all on his own.

Through his advanced intelligence, the Shulers say they were concerned about him socializing with other children. But soon, Jeremy found he felt the most comfortable at math camp where he could talk to other children with similar interests.

As for the college life, Jeremy said he was “nervous at first” but now he’s a lot more excited.

Jeremy says he wants to pursue a career in academia.
