Joan Sebastian has died at the age of 64, losing his battle with bone cancer. He passed away in his ranch located in Juliantla, Guerrero, Mexico at 7:15pm (local time).
Over his 40 year career, Sebastian released upwards of 50 albums. Mixing elements of Latin pop, ranchera, and grupera music, Sebastian’s sound captured large audiences across South America, Mexico, and the United States. 22 of his singles charted on Billboard’s Latin Songs chart, while 10 of his albums peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart. Of particular note, his album Con Tambora spent 22 weeks at No. 1, an all time record.
For his efforts, Sebastian won five Grammy Awards, the most of any Mexican musician. He also won seven Latin Grammy Awards.
