On Wednesday, Johnson & Johnson announced a recall for uterine surgery tools because they could increase the risk of undetected cancer.
The device is used to cut up growths within the uterus into smaller sections so that they can be removed using less invasive techniques. The firm has now confirmed that they have issued a global market recall on the devices and are requesting that surgical facilities return any in stock.
“Due to this continued uncertainty, Ethicon believes that a market withdrawal of Ethicon morcellation devices is the appropriate course of action at this time until further medical guidelines are established and/or new technologies are developed to mitigate the risk,” the company said in a statement.
