K-9 Saves Deputy From Near Deadly Roadside Ambush.
A Mississippi police dog is being hailed as a hero after saving an officer from being dragged into woods during a night-time ambush on a deserted road.
Hancock County K-9 Deputy Todd Frazier found himself set upon by three men during what began as a routine check on a parked car in Pearlington, near the Louisiana state line.
He thought the man sitting in the blue Lincoln Town Car with the lights off might need help, but two other men ran at him from the woods.
“They told him they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him toward the woods,” Hancock County Chief Deputy Don Bass told the Clarion-Ledger of the 18 May attack.
During the struggle, Mr Frazier desperately activated a remote control device around his neck.
It popped opened his vehicle’s back doors, and police dog Lucas sprang to the rescue.
The black Belgian Malinois sunk his teeth into the men, sending them fleeing into the darkness.
“We don’t know how many he got, we just know he had blood all over him,” Sheriff Ricky Adam told the Ledger of the men.
Mr Frazier was treated for knife wounds and other bodily injuries, but Lucas was uninjured.
Investigators are searching for the three attackers.
