Kimberly Pappas was sentenced to 9 to 20 years in prison for stuffing her newborn son into a plastic bag after giving birth at her suburban Detroit workplace.
Kimberly Pappas admitted to stuffing the newborn into a plastic bag after giving birth in March at the business in suburban Detroit.
She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder under a deal with prosecutors that called for her to serve between nine and 20 years behind bars.
At her sentencing on Monday, Pappas apologised for her son’s death.
She said: “The pain and regret I have over this really can’t be put into words.”
Police said the infant was discovered at Pappas’ desk at her workplace in Redford Township.
Pappas denied to family and co-workers she had been pregnant, the Detroit News reported.
An autopsy determined the infant lived for 20 to 30 minutes and died of suffocation.
