INXS founding member Kirk Pengilly has revealed he underwent surgery earlier this year to combat prostate cancer.
The 56-year-old guitarist was diagnosed with the disease in February (15) following a series of tests and he subsequently underwent an operation at a hospital in Sydney, Australia in March (15).
Kirk Pengilly was given some good news in April (15) when doctors informed him the cancer had been contained and he would not require chemotherapy or radiation treatment.
He tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, “It (the cancer) proved to be very aggressive… It will probably take 12 to 18 months for everything to be absolutely normal again (after the surgery). I see a physio fairly regularly now for rehabilitation with my bladder – the day I got the catheter out was a great day… So you’ve got to start again to a certain extent.”
The rocker is set to turn 57 on Saturday (04Jul15) and has decided to treat himself to a new boat to mark his birthday and to celebrate his recovery, adding, “(It will be) a present to myself.”
