The special new Lamborghini Centenario has been confirmed for a Geneva motor show debut, after weeks of reports and speculation, revealing that the 100th anniversary of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birth will be celebrated in style.
The news comes on the heels of leaked design patent images that surfaced earlier this month, offering a first look at a special-edition model not identified but very likely to be the coming Centenario.
The car pictured looks exactly like the car drawn in the discovered patent images. Aggressively styled and angular, it looks like a cross between a new Ford GT and a Lamborghini Aventador. Interestingly, it’s less angular and straight-edged than previous special editions from the Italian automaker.
Lamborghini’s outgoing CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the new supercar will not be based on the Huracán, meaning it’s likely a re-skinned Aventador with a V-12 and all-wheel drive.
With the LP 770-4 name, it should make 759 horsepower (770 metric hp), and the “4” indicates drive to all four wheels. As we’ve reported in the past, performance should be stout with a 0-62 mph time of just 2.7 seconds and a top speed in excess of 217 mph.
Twenty Centenario LP 770-4 coupes and 20 convertibles are planned, but sorry boys, all build slots have been spoken for already. Pricing is set at a quaint $2.2 million Euros (about $2.4 million), but at this level, if you even have to ask you can’t afford it.
