South Korean operator LG Uplus has announced that its personal authentication technology that uses biometric data has been certified by a global standard.
Uplus has acquired Fast Identity Online (FIDO) certification for its universal subscriber identity modules (USIM), The Kore Times reports.
The platform is to be used for combination of users’ biometric information, such as fingerprint data and iris data, with the mobile carrier’s subscriber and billing information so that one-stop authentication can become possible. In other words, the platform can remove the hassle of secondary user authentication and repeated authentication procedures for different banking, IoT services and so on.
At the same time, LG U+ is planning to open a joint platform in August with SK Telecom and KT so universal FIDO authentication solutions and services can be provided for the convenience of enterprises and organizations wishing to use them.
