Lynsey De Paul, the first female winner of an Ivor Novello award, has died at the age of 64 from a suspected brain haemorrhage.

De Paul represented the UK at the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Rock Bottom’, and scored five top 20 UK hits.

Among her most famous songs were ‘Sugar Me’ and ‘Getting a Drag’.

She also became the first woman to win an Ivor Novello award for songwriting for ‘Won’t Somebody Dance With Me’.

“Although she was small in stature, she was very big in positive personality,” said her agent Michael Joyce. “She was always so positive about everything.”

She won her second Ivor Novello Award for ‘No Honestly’, which was used as the theme to the ITV comedy of the same name. She also wrote the theme to Esther Rantzen’s BBC One series Hearts Of Gold.
