An 10-year-old Ojibwe girl stricken with cancer has refused chemotherapy and opted to rely solely on traditional medicine instead.
In a video posted to YouTube, Makayla Sault began reading from a letter to her doctors, “I’m writing to say this chemo that I’m taking is killing my body and I’m not taking it anymore.”
Sault and her parents have decided to use traditional medicine to fight her leukemia instead. Her doctors say she would have a 75 per cent chance of survival if she continued her chemotherapy. Without it, they say her situation could become dire.
McMaster has referred the case to the Children’s Aid Society. But the New Credit First Nations, located near Caledonia, Ontario, says they are ready to fight any attempts to apprehend her.
