Dad electrocuted in swimming pool after jumping in to save daughter from faulty wiring.
Jim Tramel, his wife and three kids were in Palm Springs for a family gathering, according to PEOPLE. The four children and woman jumped into the pool, but they began turning blue because they were being electrocuted. Police said they believe faulty equipment wires in the pool were causing the electrocution.
Tramel jumped into the water when he saw his daughter in distress, according to police. They were both shocked and had to be pulled out. When police and firefighters arrived at the scene, Tramel and his daughter were receiving CPR.
All seven people who were electrocuted were taken to the hospital. Tramel was pronounced dead at the hospital and his daughter remains in critical condition, according to police.
The four other children and woman were far enough from the faulty pool equipment that they were able to get out of the pool safely, police said.
The CEO of RevJet, the company Tramel was working at before he died, said him and his colleagues were “in a word, heartbroken” by the tragic accident. He set up a GoFundMe page for his family Monday. Trammel’s 9-year-old daughter is in intensive care, according to the page.
More than 500 people have donated, raising almost $100,000 for the family.
