A man was killed by a shark off the coast of Australia while his adult daughter witnessed the attack from their boat.
The diver, in his late 40s, died after being attacked off the east coast of Tasmania, in Australia this morning.
He had been diving for scallops with his daughter, who is in her 20s.
She saw her father being attacked by a large shark and set off a flare.
Although people fishing in nearby boats tried to help, the man’s injuries proved fatal.
Senior ranger Peter Lingard said that there were reported sightings of a 15 foot great white shark in the area the previous day.
Glamorgan Spring Bay mayor Michael Kent told The Examiner newspaper that the killing was ‘absolutely devastating’.
Inspector David Wiss said: ‘His daughter became worried and went down and checked on her father.
‘She saw a very large shark; she saw her father being attacked by the shark.’
