A Oregon Man, 27, Sandwiched Between 2 Trucks Survives In His Chevy Silverado, Kaleb Whitby was travelling on the I-84 when he was involved in a 50-vehicle accident near Baker City, Oregon.
“That ended up pushing my back end out into traffic,” said Whitby, “and there was a semi that was behind me and he ended up hitting my bed, which folded that underneath the first truck and my nose underneath his truck.”
“I was just praying, this can’t be my time and just hoping that everything would be OK,” said Whitby.
Miraculously, the only part of the truck that remained somewhat in tact was the driver’s seat. Whitby was taken to the hospital, only as a precaution. Amazingly, he suffered only a cut above his eye and a few scratches.
“I’m just glad to be alive,” said Whitby. “A lot of people don’t get that luxury and you just got to make the best of it.”
Eleven other people were taken to nearby hospitals.
After their arrival, one patient was transferred to Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland with serious injuries and another patient was transferred to St. Alphonsus in Boise with serious injuries.
Two of the other patients were taken to the Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande for treatment of their injuries.
Oregon State Police said that 100 people were directly or indirectly involved in the crash.
