The Mazda MX-5 Miata was named World Car of the Year in late March and now the Japanese company is celebrating another important milestone – the production of the one-millionth example of the model.

The MX-5’s success since it entered production 27 years ago has already seen it enter the Guinness World Record’s book as the best-selling two-seater sports car of all time.

To mark the achievement the one millionth car will appear at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, alongside the Mazda MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concept cars. In addition, attendees at Goodwood’s Moving Motor Show will see the all-new Mazda MX-5 tackle the legendary Goodwood hillclimb on Thursday 23rd June.

Mazda CEO, Masamichi Kogai, says the Mazda roadster has been an amazing success story for his brand.

“From the first generation through to today’s fourth-generation model, the reason we have been able to continue selling the MX-5 all these years is due to the strong support of fans around the world,” said

“Mazda was founded in Hiroshima 96 years ago, and as we move toward our centennial year we will continue offering customers the joy of driving with this model, which has become a symbol of our brand.

“Mazda aims to create a special bond with customers and become a ‘one-and-only’ brand they will choose again and again.”
