Merle Haggard has canceled the remainder of his tour dates in February due to ongoing concerns with his health after a recent bout of pneumonia. The performances include a Feb. 3 show with Kris Kristofferson in Beverly Hills and five additional dates.
“He is still feeling weak from his recent struggle with double pneumonia and has decided to seek further treatment for it,” Haggard’s publicist Tresa Redburn said in a statement to CMT. “Merle is hopeful he will be back on the road later in the spring.”
On Feb. 2, Haggard cancelled his performance in Riverside, Cali. just moments before he was set to take the stage. Many fans voiced their frustrations online about the cancelled show, which was originally scheduled to take place in January, but was moved due to Haggard’s hospitalization.
Earlier this week, Haggard described the severity of his illness in a revealing interview with Rolling Stone Country.
“I’m really lucky to be alive,” the 78-year-old artist explained. “It could’ve gone in another direction had I messed around a little more. I’m just hoping I’m fully able.”
