And the best reaction at the Oscars goes to Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez!
When Patricia Arquette received her award for best supporting actress a powerful speech was inevitable. But what came was totally unexpected.
She used her opportunity in front of the world to tackle a tough issue that had Mery Streep going all ‘right on sista’, and Jennifer Lopez looking like she didn’t know what the heck was going on.
While accepting her award, Arquette decided to have a word about gender equality and equal pay rights, with an impassioned speech that got Meryl very excited indeed.
Patricia said: ‘To every woman who gave birth to every citizen and taxpayer of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights.
‘It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.’
Cue Streep totally losing control, jumping giddily from her seat and shouting ‘Yes, yes, yes!’
Speaking in the press room afterwards, Patricia said of Meryl’s reaction: ‘I didn’t see her reaction but I heard about it. It’s amazing.’
