A body found in the frigid waters of the Hudson River by police divers was positively identified as that of missing celebrity designer Michele Savoia.
The body was recovered at 1:30 pm Sunday off of Chelsea Piers around 20 feet from the yacht Savoia called home, according to police.
55 year old Michele Savoia designed clothes for the likes of Robert Deniro and Mickey Rourke and was known as ‘Savoia the tailor.’
He was last seen leaving a fashion week celebration at the Chelsea nightclub marquee early Friday morning.
But when his longtime friend and driver couldn’t reach him later that day and Savoia didn’t show up to a Valentines dinner Friday night, friends reported him missing.
Their worst fears were confirmed Sunday when friends say his body was recovered from the icy waters near Pier 59.
He lived on a boat that was docked nearby
His driver Alberto Alonso says Savoia won’t be forgotten.
“He walked into a room you knew he was walking into the room, he just had that presence you know?” he said.
Savoia leaves behind a daughter and many heartbroken friends.
