Michelle Obama for President in 2020? As many Americans attempt to process their future under the administration of president-elect Donald Trump, others are already beaming with optimism at the thought of Michelle Obama reclaiming the White House as president in 2020.
Mr Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton shook the political establishment to the core and wasn’t predicted by traditional polling.
Mr Trump has already said he plans to run for a second term in 2020.
If Ms Obama ran, she could have some more high-profile competition – rapper Kanye West has previously said he plans to contest that year’s election.
In electing Mr Trump, voters denied the US its first female President, but many social media users don’t think that possibility has been extinguished just yet.
A number of hashtags have started trending on Twitter, including #michelle2020 and #michelleforpresident, with people urging her to run.
But back in March, the First Lady ruled out running for President, telling a crowd at Austin’s South by Southwest Festival that when her husband’s term ends in January, she has no plans to return.
“I will not run for President. No, nope, not going to do it,” Ms Obama said.
Ms Obama has been one of the most popular First Ladies in modern American history, known for her work around children’s health and her Let Girls Learn initiative.
Could her stance change now Mr Trump will take over the White House?
There are 1455 days to go.
