Miss Canada was looking to score with what she wore in front of the judges at the 63rd annual Miss Universe Competition in Miami, Florida.
Chanel Beckenlehner is the talk of cyberspace for her costume for the part of the pageant where contestants comes out in an elaborate national-themed outfit.
For Miss Canada, it was all about hockey and came complete with a scoreboard, an array of hockey sticks and a goalie net type skirt.
Images of Beckenlehner’s costume blanketed Twitter, generating a mix of praise and pans for the outfit.
Beckenlehner, who’s from Caledon, loved hearing the audience gasp when she took to the stage in her costume.
She said she met last August with Alex Kavanagh, a Toronto-based film and T-V costume designer, to discuss ideas for a Canadian-themed costume.
From 30 concepts, Kavanagh sketched six and Beckenlehner selected the final design.
Outfits inspired by the Canadarm and Hudson’s Bay were among those in the running before she settled on Canada’s pastime as the theme.
