The body of a 2-year-old boy who was reported missing on Friday evening in southeastern Fayette County was found last night in a pond near his family’s home.
Fayette Co. Sheriff, Vernon Stanforth, said the parents of LeRoy J. Toppins reported the two-year-old missing around 6:00 p.m. Friday evening.
LeRoy was last seen playing outside near his residence on Staunton-Sugar Grove Road near Highland Ave. in Washington Court House.
“In addition to the Toppins’ home and nearby properties, the residence is located adjacent to the former Sugar Creek Stone Quarry and emergency personnel are focusing efforts to the large body of water at that location as well as the wooded areas and creeks in the area,” said Stanforth during the search.
Divers from the Washington Court House Fire Department and Ross County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search of the quarry and creeks in the area.
The toddler was last seen wearing a navy blue sweatshirt with a ‘teddy bear’ design on the front, a pair of blue jeans and camouflage work boots.
