Augmented reality company Modiface has integrated simulation technology into a chatbot on Facebook Messenger to help users try on different lipsticks, marking a new use case in the rapid evolution of chatbots for retail purposes.
Modiface has been creating augmented reality technology for the beauty world for quite some time now, collaborating with L’Oreal Paris and Avon. The company’s latest endeavour, a collaboration with Facebook Messenger allows you to access a virtual beauty advisor via the app.
The formula is simple: tell Modiface your favourite lipstick brand or shade, browse the suggestions generated by the chatbot and then snap a selfie to try on your favourite shades.
Modiface already has try-on applications but the collaboration with Facebook takes it one step further allowing users to buy their favourite shades directly from the app.
Currently the products are limited to 900 different lipsticks from 70 brands. However, Modiface has access to an additional 20,000 products including blushes and shadows which they hope to make available through Facebook Messenger.
