Montreal and the province of Quebec have unveiled plans to install 106 charging stations for electric cars around the city by next spring.
The government says more than 50 per cent of Quebec’s more than 7,000 registered electric cars are in Montreal.
Two curbside charging stations were installed downtown last summer.
Mayor Denis Coderre says there’s justification for 53 more charging areas being built since there’s more interest in the pilot project.
Quebec expressed its commitment to match the city’s pledge for curbside recharging stations, raising the total to 106.
“The more you see those recharge device, the more you will have people who will come with their electric cars or who will think to buy electric cars when they will change their vehicle,” said Coderre.
