The all-new CLS has been caught on camera once again hiding its sleek body. Our sources suggest it will retain the name.
Although dressed in heavy camouflage, the sleek profile of the CLE – which is essentially the next-gen CLS with a new name – is clear to see, with body dimensions that look near identical to those of the current car.
This suggests the changes will be evolutionary both outside and in, with the new E-Class offering the best insight into how the CLE’s details will look.
The E-Class will also lend its underpinnings and drivetrains to the CLE, hence the E in its name, meaning it’ll come with a selection of turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 petrol and diesel engines, as well as the E 63’s 603bhp turbocharged V8 engine for the AMG CLE 63 model.
Some of the semi-autonomous driving technology of the E-Class will also be carried over to the CLE, possibly including Speed Limit Pilot, which automatically adjusts the speed of the vehicle in relation to posted speed limits, and Active Lane Change Assist, which is able to autonomously perform a lane change.
Mercedes has refrained from confirming the next CLS’s arrival date, the life cycle of the current model suggests it will go on sale in 2018.
